Notes for Philip K. Thurman
Enlisted for service in the Revolution in 1775 and fought with troops from
Cheraw District, South Carolina, under Capt. Daniel Sunday, Capt. Benjamin Odum
and Col. George Hicks. Moved from his home in Cheraw to the Edisto River in
1780, and while residing there enlisted and was at the seige of Augusta. After
being discharged in the fall of 1781 he returned to his home in Cheraw district
where he reenlisted and served until discharged 15 nov 1782. In 1801 migrated
to Smith County, Tennessee for a year or two. His name appears in Smith County
where he was summoned for jury duty in 1802 and his hands listed for road work. He then moved to Anderson County, Tennessee for a like period and finally in 1806 moved to new territory acquired
from the Cherokee Indians which in 1807 became Bledsoe County, Tennessee. He remained there until his death.
