Dave was always interested in airplanes and built models. He was an Eagle Scout in Vienna, VA. , played Little League baseball, liked hiking and camping. David graduated from George C. Marshall high school in Falls Church, VA. At the University of Colorado he was in NROTC and graduated with a BS in Journalism and was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy. He went to flight school and subsequently became an A-6 bombardier-navigator. In 1991 he graduated from the Naval War College and earned a master's degree from Salve Regina College, both in Newport, RI.
