Dear Uncle
I have been thinking for some time of writing to you but have put it off until now. I got your address from my brother John. He is at my place now he has just come from North Dakota. He says to tell you he will write to you soon. He did intend going to see you but Father was sick about that time and he would have gone home but we hear that Father is all right again. The last letter I had from home they were all well.
Some of us boys are planning on going to Washington and will surely come and see you. We have never sen any of our fathers brothers. As you see I am in Chicago but do not like city life. For the last ten years past I have been doing machine work and have made some good improvements in the machine line. I have 4 or 5 patents that I think I will be able to make some money out of or at least some of them. I had a patent aloud (sic) me last July on a machine for taking the lint off of Cotton Seed which I am about to sell. I will send you a copy of one of my patents. This is a hard patent to sell for the reason that it will take such a great amount of money to handle it.
Times are dull here but I have no reason to complain. I am dewing (sic) fairly well. I guess you remember I am married. My wife is well. We have no children. Not much like the rest of the Crowe family is it Uncle.
Brother William is in Chicago. He is well. As I said some of us boys are planning to come to Washington and I would like for you to let me know what the prospects would be in the way of getting government land and where Such land is located and what the conditions are as near as you can. and what good land can be bought for
My plan is to bring som machinery there and would like to locate where I can get a good water Power so that I could Start a general machine Shop and perhaps a grist mill Well Uncle I must come to a close for this time. John said your health was good when he heard from you last June. i was glad to hear that you was so smart we will try and keep track of each other more.
So I will close for this time hoping you are all well.
My wife joins me in sending love to you all.
I am you nephew
