Crete High School senior Andrea J. Henning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Henning Jr. of Crete, was selected as an alternate to the service academies by both Sen. J.J. Exon and Rep. Doug Bereuter. Henning was selected for the U.S. Army Academy by Bereuter and the Air Force Academy by Exon. 1483
Andrea Henning was named valedictorian at the annual Crete High graduation and Linda Messman was named salutatorian of the class of 1983. Penning, named to to the U.S. Air Force Academy , is believed to be the first girl from Crete High to receive an academy appointment.
