Leo Gilbert Friend, 49, of Deep Creek Lake, died Friday, January 8, at University Medical Center, Morgantown, W. Va., where he had been a patient six weeks. Mr. Friend was a wild life officer for the State of Maryland for 23 years and a member of the Deer Park Episcopal Church. Born in Westernport, he was a son of the late Claude and Manila (Upole) Friend. Surviving are his widow, Betty Friend, and two daughters, Mrs. Patricia A., Rockville, and AMN Terrie S. with the Air Force, Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Mrs. Lois Rollman; a brother, Milford A. Friend, Deer Park, and two grandchildren. The body was taken to the Minnich Funeral Home, Oakland. Services were conducted Monday afternoon at the funeral home, Rev. John A. Grant officiated and interment was in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were wildlife officers of Region I. (dated 1971) Leo, my father, also was survived by another brother, Claude Francis Friend, Jr., then living in Reno, Nevada. Now deceased.
