Elizabeth Crowe Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Crowe, 95
1927 - 2023
Peabody - Elizabeth "Betty" Crowe, age 95, passed away peacefully at Beverly Hospital on March 31. Born in Saugus on August 26, 1927, she was the youngest of four children of Scottish immigrants, David and Sarah (Mulhinch) Withers.
She attended Lynn public schools and graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1945. She worked for several years as a stenographer for an accounting firm in Boston and a secretary at General Electric in Lynn.
In 1948, she married William C. Crowe Jr., of Lynn, and enjoyed 35 years of marriage until his death in 1984. Together they had five sons and, following her husband's job opportunities with GE, moved four times, to Lynchburg, Va., Camillus, N.Y., Lenox, Mass., and Somersworth, N.H. After her husband's death, she moved to Beverly, Mass., and lived in a home on Tremont Street for over 20 years, before moving to Brooksby Village retirement community in Peabody in 2012.
She loved reading, playing games, traveling, and most of all, she said, being a mother. Despite her poor hearing and eyesight (retinitis pigmentosa), her mind remained sharp and her wit even sharper. She lived in her own apartment until the last two days of her life.
She is survived by her five sons and their families: William D. and Mary Crowe of Rochester, N.Y. , Stephen W. and Elizabeth "Betsy" Crowe of Beverly, Mass., David T.P. Crowe and Barbara Shepard of Sacramento, Calif., Jeffrey A. and Marjorie Crowe of Randolph, Vt., and John R. Crowe and Kincheng Lei-Crowe of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; several grandchildren, Jonathan Crowe and Michelle Moon of Somerville, Mass., William P. and Lauren Crowe and their son Everett of Carlsbad, Calif., Stephen J. and Jennifer Crowe of Torrance, Calif., and their sons Nathan and Zachary, Elizabeth "Libby" Crowe and JoJo Huynh of Holyoke, Mass., Brian and Amethyst Crowe and their daughter Maeve of Randolph, Vt., Katie Crowe of Pittsburgh, Pa., Chon and Sandy Chan and their son Joshua of Fairfield, Calif.; and a great-granddaughter Irene Kreigh of Rochester, N.Y.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn Wilson of Lynn, and her good friend Irma Bullock of Dover, N.H., and many nieces and nephews, including Jane and Ken Robinson of Beverly, Mass., and Chris and Mike Moran of Attleboro, Mass.
Service Information: Her funeral will be held Wednesday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Lynn, Congregational, 678 Lynnfield St. (Route 129), Lynn, Mass. A time of visiting with family will be held at the church prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Cemetery.
