Old Settler Passed Away
J.W. Crowe, who for years carried mail to Bailey and Harlan died.
J.W. Crowe died near Simeon at about 6 o'clock Thursday evening July 16, 1914 at the age of 78 years. He has been almost helpless a greater part of the time during the time during the past two years as a result of a stroked of paralysis. He was among the early settlers of Cherry County, coming here about 26 years ago and for many years and a greater part of the time resided near and in Merriman. Funeral services will be conducted at the home today by the Reverend J.A. Johnson, pastor of the Methodist church of this place. The remains will be brought to Valentine and from here taken tonight to Gordon and from there to Lavaca for burial Saturday. Mr. Crowe is survived by his wife, six daughters and two sons. the daughters are Mrs. Harry Ayres, Mrs. Fred Metsker, Mrs. A.B. Green, Mrs. P.H. Young, Mrs. R.K. Johnson and Mrs. C. Young. The sons are Arthur and Frederick. ***–– Valentine Republican
