He worked at sundry jobs, at the Crete Mills, in Denver and in Omaha, until in 1943 when he served with the Coast Guard until December, 1945. He was discharged with a torn kidney.
He married LaVerne at Baltimore, MD, in 1943, while in the Coast Guard.
Glen went to work as a fireman with the Union Pacific Railroad. After several years he was laid off and operated a bar at Ohiowa, NE. At one time , during layoffs, he worked for the Gas Company and lived in Sigoumi, IA, Stenett, TX, Hooker, OK and Beatrice, NE.
After After a couple more lay offs from Union Pacific, Glenn went to work with the Burlington Railway as a Fireman. He took Burlington’s schooling and the tests to become qualified as an engineer. He worked in that position with Brlington until he retired at 59 in 1984.
During these years with the railroad, 1962-1984, he purchased three small farms near Dorchester, NE, which he has continued to operate in his retirement.
During this same period, Glenn purchased a small crawler tractor and a garbage truck and started the first garbage company in Saline County, NE. Son, Rex, with much help from Glenn, was the garbage collector. They used the garbage to fill large
