Rex started his schooling at Beatrice, Nebraska. His parents then moved to Dorchester, Neb. and here he completed high school in 1962. He next enrolled at the University of Nebraska, graduating there in 1967 with a major in Political Science and minors in English & History. Rex then started his Law studies here and received his JD in 1970. He moved Colorado Springs in 1970 and worked for Shepards-Magaw-Hill as a legal author & editor. Rex was licensed to law 1970 and licensed in Colorado in 1973. He worked as a Colorado Springs city prosecution officer for one year, then began his own practice here in 1974.

Rex closed his law practice in about 1990. He has since converted his old law offices into rental apartments and has became a gentleman farmer. He goes several times a year to Nebraska, where he works the farms with his dad.241
