GONE TO REST. Richard R. Crowe, Sez., died at his home in the town of Oasis, on Tues- day, September 9, 1884, at the age of 76 years. He was born in Kings county, Nova Scotia, June 26, 1808, where he spent the greater part of his younger days. In 1830 he married Miss Mary Coggs well and the fruits of this marriage were nine children, seven of whom, with their mother, survive him. He came to Wisconsin in 1850, and settled at Lamertine, Fond du Lac county. In the spring of 1855 he removed to Oasis, Waushara county, and settled on the farm where he died. While in Fond du Lac county he was chosen chairman of the town in which he lived, and represented the town of Oasis on the county board of Waushara county for 23 years, 16 of which were consecutive. He also held other town offices with credit. Mr. Crowe was always a kind and loving husband and an indulgent father. He was not a member of any church, but being a great reader was well versed in the scriptures, and en- joyed trying to lead a Christian life. He was a good neighbor and had many warm friends, as was shown by the large number who followed his re- mains to their last resting place. His funeral was held from the fami- ly residence in Oasis, the Rev. Chas. W. Tripp officiating. He was buried in the Oasis cemetery. Mr. Crowe was a strong well built man and had enjoyed good health until recently, and being an old settler and acquainted with all in this community, his death was a shock to everyone. Thus it is all the old land marks are quietly passing away.-Plainfield Wis.
